LookBook: Shop Stop Chicago

I finished 2013 off on a very spectacular high note. I spent the weekend in La Crosse, Wisconsin doing the wedding pictures between some close family members of mine, and with that I was on my way back to GR with of course, one obligatory stay in Chicago, my favorite town in the Midwest!

Amounting the lack of heat in the city that day, I stayed relatively warm. I do regret not packing ear muffs though, and I may have had to take refuge in a Starbucks from the shops opened! Regardless, my body stayed relatively warm because one thing they teach you to do from child birth in Michigan is layers.. layers.. layers!

My favorites of this outfit are also a shameless repeat of the season. I have been getting much use out of my combat boots along with my sable-tooth scarf from H&M! We only stayed in Chicago for not even a whole day so shopping was a must, so I made my way in the morning to the shopping mecca of Chicago being Michigan Avenue, it was a shop stop well spent!

It was relaxing to visit the city and not feel like I had to visit everything as fast as I could which made for a casual stop on the way back to the Mitten, a very cold one at that! How is the weather holding up in your neck of the woods? I am one snow day with one on the way for tomorrow! Stay safe out there! xxoo

LookBook- The Dock

Hello all! I am home from another fantastic week in Northern Michigan. I spent the past week up North, and the weekend before that in The Straits Of Mackinac of Michigan. You should expect a full recap of the Mackinac trip tomorrow on the blog.

+Anyways, our family took the ferry over Saturday afternoon to Mackinac Island, a large tourist destination for Michiganders, and even some from surrounding states. Once settled into the Bicycle Inn & Suites, our family partook in a classic Mackinac Island amenity, biking! Our family hasn’t done it the past couple years since it’s the same drive every year and we go every year and like to try new things every year, but this year we decided to refresh our brains of the sites the Island has to offer!

+About halfway around the island, I have always noticed this dock that usually had one small boat attached, but this time no boats. This was the reason I felt less of a trespasser if I walked on the dock for pictures. This is probably one of my favorite spots around the Island now! You get views of the coast, bridge, and crystal blue water!

+Now, for the outfit I wore just a simple tank top and khaki shorts. With biking, and the heat up at the Island that day, it was the perfect simple outfit for outdoor activity, and I never felt overheated!

+It has been a wonderful vacation. I can’t believe I have yet ANOTHER trip ahead of me to Pennsylvania next week! I have doing trips every other week since July, and I really can’t complain because I have enjoyed every one of them. I hope you are having a fantastic Summer yourselves readers, have a good one! xxoo

Summer Nights: Deck Party

July 22nd, 2013

+Hello all, happy Monday! This past week I spent a lot of time getting back into the swing of things after a week of service at the Quad Cities. I have also been catching up with a lot of friends, and that included an evening around home at Matisse’s house.

+We spent the evening just chilling on the deck with some music, and laughs. Matisse and I discussed blogging a bit and attempted to make a video that definitely did not turn out, haha! But nonetheless, considering the heat the past week, this evening was very chill and not to hot. I really thought about it, and appreciate Michigan Summers for days just like this.(especially in my hamburger socks from Target!)

+Now that it is already creeping towards the end of July, I have really thought about how fast this Summer break is going, and still all I want to get done. I still have a week up in Northern Michigan, a week in Pennsylvania, and there is only about a month left. That previous thought left me wondering about what I want to do with the rest of my Summer. I want to be as productive as possible, while still being able to look back on cool experiences. I know I still have a lot of things on my mental-bucket-list for the Summer I still want to cross off, and this night was something that wasn’t even on it, but it was very sentimental to me all in all.

+I know we all, especially in my age group run into this situation every year during the midst of the Summer season. I will now be basking in the week I have up North, and also the last month I have of this wonderful Summer. I encourage you to do the same! Have a good one readers! xxoo

Quick Fix #1: Jeans To Shorts!

Hello all, and welcome to a new blog-series I have just started called “Quick Fix!” This series will basically feature DIY projects, or helpful things/projects that you may find useful!

+To start off this series, I decided to fix a problem I have had for a while now. If you are like me and have recently gone through weight loss, you know how frustrating it is to have a lot of clothing that does not fit well even more, and my biggest problem has been skinny jeans, because they are meant to be your size, and over sized skinny jeans are not formfitting at all, especially at the thighs! The fix I found for this… cut them! Take some fabric scissors and cut them to your heart’s desire!

+It really is a simple process, and the freedom you have is to cut them at any length you want! You can cut them a little below the knee and roll them up, or but them a little above the knee and have perfectly cut shorts. I cut a little above the knee because I like the grungy look of the frayed fabric!

+The biggest tip I have for this, is cut way lower then you are expecting to at first! You do not want to make a pair of booty shorts and realize it looks bad and just wasted the pair of jeans. Cut low and then snip off more, and more at a time until you have found the length to your liking. Also remember to try on the pants/shorts between every cut, so you can see how they look on you, skinny jeans are tricky!

+Finished! I still have some trimming around the bottoms I need to even out, but I am pretty pleased with them. These are my first pair, so for a practice pair, I think they don’t look jank! Let me know if any of you try this out and tell me how it goes, have a good one readers!

LookBook- Cape May

July 1st, 2013

This past weekend, Nicki and I hung out at the local playground around my neighborhood and just relaxed to the Summer air. It was overcast the whole day but we got lucky with the weather considering the potential threat of rain.

I have come to the realization that I have been wearing a lot(too much) denim lately.

Nicki’s Outfit:

I have had this Cape May tank top for a while now and it has been one of my favorite tanks to wear, by itself or just layered.

My Outfit:

  1. Denim Vest: Thrift
  2. Cape May Tank Top: Thrift
  3. Bracelet: Rue 21
  4. Rude Skinny Jeans: Hot Topic
  5. Shoes: Converse

Lately, I have been pretty into sleeveless things like tank tops, vests and so on, and I have been findings a lot a thrift stores to add to my Summer wardrobe. It’s nice to show a little more skin instead of being bundled up in Spring clothes. Well I hope you have a fantastic start to your week readers and make it a good one! xxoo

June Windup! Monthly Favorites

June 30th, 2013

Now June is being brought to a close, which also means that the first month of Summer is also being brought to a close. I always write about how crazy things are going so fast this year, and the reason it has been impacting me so much, is because my life is going to be changing so much over the course of the next two years preparing for college. Before we know it, we will be in 2014 and I will know what college im going to and where I will be living a year from now.

I have been getting a lot out of photographer, Chloe Rice’s blog recently. Chloe lives in the San Francisco area and she is very artistic aside from her main medium of photography. Her blog uses typography to accompany her photos in awesome ways and I read her posts for feel-good inspiration for art etc.

I have been in a dressy mood lately for Summer, and I recently got this outfit for the wedding rehearsal. The shirt is from Khols and the shorts are from Target.

I came across Stealing Sheep in the background of a Rookie Mag video a few weeks ago and I fell in love with the group! They have such a unique style and the music video to this song was just really interesting to me.

Favorite Moments From This Month

+ Finishing my junior year of High school!
+ Visiting one of my dream colleges.
+ Braving the New Jersey Turnpike
+ Witnessing Annmarie marry the man of her dreams!
+ Intense games of LIFE with the besties
+ Visiting New York for the first time!
+ Seeing my sister’s new stomping grounds in Pennsylvania!
+ Riding on NJ Transit for the first time.
+ Hole In The Wall restaurants in New Jersey

Well we are already about one third away through the Summer, and that concept is crazy to me! The wedding and travel has been taking me by storm this past month, and there is much more for me to see and do this Summer. I can’t wait to see what it brings me!

Flower Power: Adventures At Horrocks!

June 17th, 2013

This past weekend I went out with Tiffany and Julia to do some pictures at Horrocks, a local organic market and floralstore. We went out and took some pictures in the multiple aisles of flowers, even with a little sprinkling of rain here and there, it made for a pleasant day!

Tiffany’s Outfit:

  • Dress: Brandy Melville
  • Kimono: Buckle
  • Shoes: Doc Martens

We may have been looking like we were stocking up on flowers in the photos, but in reality we just looked like freaks posing for pictures with flowers. Julia should be in a Martha Stewart Mag!

Tiffany and I go to different schools so when we get the opportunity to hang out we definitely take advantage, and converse about fashion and the internet. 😉

After much time spent in the store, and the skies cleared, we walked around a bit and to 7/11 where we got a few pics.

My Outfit:

It was nice to spend some time in a simple place and get so much enjoyment out of it. It inspires me to get out to more local stores to tour and play around in this Summer. It was also nice to do something relaxing with all the hustle and bustle of Annmarie’s wedding coming up, 5 MORE DAYS! It is crazy how different our lives will be after this weekend! I hope you are enjoying your Summers readers! xxoo
