Re: Getting Out of My Funk

You Can't Stop the Waves, but You Can Learn to Surf by Christopher Vinca

Now being a few weeks into school, I definitely have noticed the dry aura of my blog and writing. I actually noticed this with a lot of aspects in my life. Eating, physical activity, etc. While I have been productive in my studies and extra curricular activities through high school I still was not completely satisfied. I did have an epiphany though through a post from none other then Gala Darling!

She wrote a post earlier this week with her own experiences of being in mental slum the last few days. I had been dealing with this for the last couple of weeks on and off but I could not really pin point what this actually was. To my surprise, as I continued reading I was diagnosed perfectly! I was even more relieved to know that it was normal to get in states alike this one! Gala then shared some quick and easy routinely things that got her back into her groove, most of which I tried and definitely helped. I also added some things myself that I have been doing this past week that may help you get out of your funk as well.

I cleaned my workspace.

This is one that definitely boosted my motivation to work. After papers on papers of college prep, school work, and various magazine subscription cards, my workspace was getting very cluttered and I wanted to spend less and less time in that setting. Once I took a very reasonable amount of time just to rearrange and organize, I wanted to get right to work as soon as possible. It’s much more motivating to be working in a setting that you enjoy.

I drank something new.

I know that chai tea is not a substance foreign to my palate, but I definitely have not had it in a long time, and boy I was missing out. It has been much more tempting to buy the Pumpkin Spice Latte’s and Carmel Iced Mochas from Starbucks but this drink for one, is cheaper and two, has less calories, and I think that chai is just as sweet as many of the other drinks on the menu. Changing things up for either healthier alternatives or just for the hell of it, can just be a small jolt that may bump you back into positivity. This could also be achieved with foods as well.

I slept… less?

Another habit I tend to fall into during the school year is sleeping about an hour after I arrive home from school. It sounds heavenly that I have the time to sleep after school, but all it does is keep me up later then I should be and leaves less time for me to work on projects outside of school. Staying awake with a snack adjusts my sleeping schedule to something a little more humane where I am tired at the time I should be going to bed with a long day of productivity behind me.

I enjoyed my free time.

Tied with the amount of sleep I have accumulated of the last couple weeks, it was something that occupied a lot of my post school free time. This involved most of my day spent sleeping or just being lazy which drew me from outside work and other outside activities I wanted to complete in the afternoon. Getting off my lazy butt helped me actually do things I enjoy, and the fact I use my free time to it’s full potential increases productivity and a positive mood.

Me too, Gala I am glad to be out of my own funk and actually getting back into my own work. I feel much more productive and am enjoying the school year much more again! I hope these tips help, and thanks Gala for inspiring this post and helping me get out of my own sour mood as well! Have a good one readers! xxoo

Summer Nights: Deck Party

July 22nd, 2013

+Hello all, happy Monday! This past week I spent a lot of time getting back into the swing of things after a week of service at the Quad Cities. I have also been catching up with a lot of friends, and that included an evening around home at Matisse’s house.

+We spent the evening just chilling on the deck with some music, and laughs. Matisse and I discussed blogging a bit and attempted to make a video that definitely did not turn out, haha! But nonetheless, considering the heat the past week, this evening was very chill and not to hot. I really thought about it, and appreciate Michigan Summers for days just like this.(especially in my hamburger socks from Target!)

+Now that it is already creeping towards the end of July, I have really thought about how fast this Summer break is going, and still all I want to get done. I still have a week up in Northern Michigan, a week in Pennsylvania, and there is only about a month left. That previous thought left me wondering about what I want to do with the rest of my Summer. I want to be as productive as possible, while still being able to look back on cool experiences. I know I still have a lot of things on my mental-bucket-list for the Summer I still want to cross off, and this night was something that wasn’t even on it, but it was very sentimental to me all in all.

+I know we all, especially in my age group run into this situation every year during the midst of the Summer season. I will now be basking in the week I have up North, and also the last month I have of this wonderful Summer. I encourage you to do the same! Have a good one readers! xxoo

Proud To Be American

July 6th, 2013

First of all, I hope you all had a fantastic Fourth of July! I spent it at a cottage of Nicki’s family in Southern Michigan then I went downtown for the fireworks back in GR. The fireworks were amazing from Lyon street! You could see the fireworks perfectly! That was not the only thing that caught my attention though that evening. If you notice on the photo above, the man on the right with his hands up. Our friends kind of giggled at how enthusiastic he was to the fireworks, but I realized that this was such a cool sight!

The man was on his bike the whole show with his head held high in amazement. He noticed me taking pictures half-way through and said “I hope you are getting this on camera, it is AMAZING!” His positivity just kind of radiated off of him. Whether this was due to his pride in his country, or the guy just liking fireworks, it was just such a cool, and positive thing to see that evening and I thought I’d share! I hope you had a wonderful weekend and enjoy this hot week of Summer!

How To Get Through The Final Weeks of School

May 22nd, 2013

(courtesy of Cuba Gallery)

So I know for many of you in schooling like me, still have a few more weeks until you reach your Summer breaks, and for those who already are on Summer, lucky you! Also, if you aren’t in schooling this post may still apply to you in things to past time or to stay focus when it may seem hard. I know to us in school, we are all checking-out mentally and it has been hard to stay focused so here is a list of things I came up with that keeps me motivated as well as keeping these last few weeks of school not a total hell.

  • Make a music playlist of songs to remind you of Summer, this may increase your longing for Summer, but it helps me stay motivated in my school work knowing Summer is soon.
  • Log out of your computer. I know I have had to take more breaks from technology to stay focused. You will also stay more down to Earth during this time.
  • Make a Summer bucket list. I know that most of us never finish these, but it is good to kind of plan out what your goals for the Summer are.
  • Take a trip to the beach. This will give you a little Summer fix for the time being. Recommended on weekends.
  • Work outside. I find it much more relaxing to enjoy the Summer heat while working on a school project.
  • Spend time with friends. I think increasing social interaction during these few weeks will keep you from being bored out of your mind with school work, and being more motivated to work when you actually have to sit down and do it.
  • Check grades regularly. I know this seems a little self explanatory  but if you are on top of where you are in your class, you will be more apt to stay that way, I know I do.
  • TAKE BREAKS! Especially if you are cramming. They can be as small as 15 minutes, or as large as an hour if you have time for it. Your head will be less likely to explode studying if you take time to mentally regroup.
  • Avoid stress eating. I know I have done this where I excuse bad eating habits with the excuse of studying or cramming. A jar of lemonade and some celery sticks should do the trick without eating foods that make you stuffed. A chocolate bar every now or then wouldn’t hurt though 😉
  • Avoid time killers. You can do whatever of these you want during the Summer, but I know sites like Tumblr, and Twitter have sucked hours out of my study time because I lose track of it every time I log in.
  • Make a countdown! Taking the time to realize you only have so much time left will make you realize it wouldn’t be so bad to study up.
  • Drink lots of water! Staying hydrated, especially in this heat will keep you more alert during this time crucial for studying.

So I hope these keep you a little bit more motivated to stay focused for Summer. I know it is hard and will be hard, I am definitely in the same boat right now. Speaking as someone who has an acting final tomorrow, writing a post about how to stay focused probably isn’t the best idea, so learn from me, and stay focused and use your time wisely while making sure to do some fun things to keep your brain from exploding! 😉

I hope you all enjoy the rest of your weeks readers, and stay happy and healthy!

Green Juice! Recommend!

April 19th, 2013

Happy Friday Readers! I come here today to bring you something new I decided to try based on my recent urge to kick up the healthy-status of what goes into my body and thus resulting in GREEN JUICE! Now I was inspired to try this recipe featured on Gala Darling, and I have to admit after purchasing what seemed like unusual ingredients for a drink, I was hesitant whether I would like it or not, but I was not disappointed!

One thing I did differently to prepare it then Gala’s method was to use a cheese cloth along with this method to juice everything due to the fact I do not possess a juicer. I do not know specifically if I got the same results nutrient-wise but I know it still tasted refreshing. A tip I have for serving this or when drinking, like Gala said is to swirl it around as you drink it so it doesn’t settle, it tastes much better consistently stirred.

Overall I recommend that you all go out and try this, I know I will be making it more to have with breakfast for a good kick-start to my day! With that I encourage you to do some surfing of your own and find a new recipe, drink or food to try with a meal! Enjoy your weekend!
