LookBook: Shop Stop Chicago

I finished 2013 off on a very spectacular high note. I spent the weekend in La Crosse, Wisconsin doing the wedding pictures between some close family members of mine, and with that I was on my way back to GR with of course, one obligatory stay in Chicago, my favorite town in the Midwest!

Amounting the lack of heat in the city that day, I stayed relatively warm. I do regret not packing ear muffs though, and I may have had to take refuge in a Starbucks from the shops opened! Regardless, my body stayed relatively warm because one thing they teach you to do from child birth in Michigan is layers.. layers.. layers!

My favorites of this outfit are also a shameless repeat of the season. I have been getting much use out of my combat boots along with my sable-tooth scarf from H&M! We only stayed in Chicago for not even a whole day so shopping was a must, so I made my way in the morning to the shopping mecca of Chicago being Michigan Avenue, it was a shop stop well spent!

It was relaxing to visit the city and not feel like I had to visit everything as fast as I could which made for a casual stop on the way back to the Mitten, a very cold one at that! How is the weather holding up in your neck of the woods? I am one snow day with one on the way for tomorrow! Stay safe out there! xxoo

Fashion Files #1: Wear What Feels Wrong!

December 17th, 2013

Don't be like the rest of them darling.

I feel like my personal style has undergone a rebirth or revolution if you will in the last few months. What I mean by this is that I have been experimenting with my wardrobe choices and how I accessorize myself. These experiments require taking risks. I have always described fashion-ability as this:

Whether or not you agree with that quote, it is the outlook I have on personal style and fashion as a whole. If you want to be fashionable you have to be willing to change the game with your own choices that involve risk. You will constantly receive criticism for what you wear if it isn’t the norm, so you could stick to trends, but where the hell is the fun in that?

For example. I decided to try wearing black nail polish for the first time just for fun. I know that men wearing black nail polish is not much but associated with the stereotype of the 90’s goth-macabre image, but I have been really intrigued by wearing a lot of blacks lately, especially in contrast with the Winter, so I went ahead and did it. I definitely did get some weird stares in public, and condescending questions from friends “Are you wearing black nail polish?” as if they couldn’t answer their question from their own observation.

Regardless of the public reaction, I liked how it looked and I looked badass. I expressed how I wanted to look in compliance with my clothes and I actually got more positive then negative reactions. I received comments like “Only you, Clay could pull that off.” That kind of comment makes me feel good because it gives me some sort of sense of identity. The main point being, I liked how I looked and I was glad that I took the risk and disregarded what others would think to produce a look that felt assuring to what I was going for.

No matter how wrong that kooky-patterned button-up feels to wear, or how dashing that hot pink blazer looks on a store rack, do not be afraid to take the plunge and experiment. Getting over the hump of irrelevant opinions of others and wearing what you want makes you feel like a bad ass. Have a fantastic week readers! xxoo

Look Book: Downtown Dress

October 12th, 2013

Last month, Julia and I went downtown to take some senior portraits for myself. I recently purchased this blazer from Forever 21, and was eager to take some pictures with it and actually put it to use.

We spent time along the river taking shots before we were shortly rained out. I think we got some good shots though while we were there thanks to Julia!

All in all it was a productive day of snaps considering that we got rained out. I think they turned out well, and I am excited to catch a couple more pictures to add to this set as well. Until then, I have to work on some friend’s senior pics I am doing as well. I hope you enjoy your weekend readers! Have a good one! xxoo

LookBook- The Dock

Hello all! I am home from another fantastic week in Northern Michigan. I spent the past week up North, and the weekend before that in The Straits Of Mackinac of Michigan. You should expect a full recap of the Mackinac trip tomorrow on the blog.

+Anyways, our family took the ferry over Saturday afternoon to Mackinac Island, a large tourist destination for Michiganders, and even some from surrounding states. Once settled into the Bicycle Inn & Suites, our family partook in a classic Mackinac Island amenity, biking! Our family hasn’t done it the past couple years since it’s the same drive every year and we go every year and like to try new things every year, but this year we decided to refresh our brains of the sites the Island has to offer!

+About halfway around the island, I have always noticed this dock that usually had one small boat attached, but this time no boats. This was the reason I felt less of a trespasser if I walked on the dock for pictures. This is probably one of my favorite spots around the Island now! You get views of the coast, bridge, and crystal blue water!

+Now, for the outfit I wore just a simple tank top and khaki shorts. With biking, and the heat up at the Island that day, it was the perfect simple outfit for outdoor activity, and I never felt overheated!

+It has been a wonderful vacation. I can’t believe I have yet ANOTHER trip ahead of me to Pennsylvania next week! I have doing trips every other week since July, and I really can’t complain because I have enjoyed every one of them. I hope you are having a fantastic Summer yourselves readers, have a good one! xxoo

Quick Fix #1: Jeans To Shorts!

Hello all, and welcome to a new blog-series I have just started called “Quick Fix!” This series will basically feature DIY projects, or helpful things/projects that you may find useful!

+To start off this series, I decided to fix a problem I have had for a while now. If you are like me and have recently gone through weight loss, you know how frustrating it is to have a lot of clothing that does not fit well even more, and my biggest problem has been skinny jeans, because they are meant to be your size, and over sized skinny jeans are not formfitting at all, especially at the thighs! The fix I found for this… cut them! Take some fabric scissors and cut them to your heart’s desire!

+It really is a simple process, and the freedom you have is to cut them at any length you want! You can cut them a little below the knee and roll them up, or but them a little above the knee and have perfectly cut shorts. I cut a little above the knee because I like the grungy look of the frayed fabric!

+The biggest tip I have for this, is cut way lower then you are expecting to at first! You do not want to make a pair of booty shorts and realize it looks bad and just wasted the pair of jeans. Cut low and then snip off more, and more at a time until you have found the length to your liking. Also remember to try on the pants/shorts between every cut, so you can see how they look on you, skinny jeans are tricky!

+Finished! I still have some trimming around the bottoms I need to even out, but I am pretty pleased with them. These are my first pair, so for a practice pair, I think they don’t look jank! Let me know if any of you try this out and tell me how it goes, have a good one readers!

LookBook- Cape May

July 1st, 2013

This past weekend, Nicki and I hung out at the local playground around my neighborhood and just relaxed to the Summer air. It was overcast the whole day but we got lucky with the weather considering the potential threat of rain.

I have come to the realization that I have been wearing a lot(too much) denim lately.

Nicki’s Outfit:

I have had this Cape May tank top for a while now and it has been one of my favorite tanks to wear, by itself or just layered.

My Outfit:

  1. Denim Vest: Thrift
  2. Cape May Tank Top: Thrift
  3. Bracelet: Rue 21
  4. Rude Skinny Jeans: Hot Topic
  5. Shoes: Converse

Lately, I have been pretty into sleeveless things like tank tops, vests and so on, and I have been findings a lot a thrift stores to add to my Summer wardrobe. It’s nice to show a little more skin instead of being bundled up in Spring clothes. Well I hope you have a fantastic start to your week readers and make it a good one! xxoo
